Urban Klima 2050 makes progress in developing action plans for citizen empowerment in regards to climate change
In the framework of action C.7.1 'Citizen Training', the LIFE IP Urban Klima 2050 project is progressing in 'Diagnosing, defining and co-designing the 2025 Action on citizen empowerment in regards to climate change.'
During the months of October, November, and December, the project has held a total of ten sessions with the aim of addressing the development of eight action plans for citizen empowerment in regards to climate change: Seven of them were aimed at municipal action plans in several Basque municipalities (Amurrio, Bakio, Bermeo, Bilbao, Donostia/San Sebastián, Vitoria-Gasteiz, and Zarautz), which were completed by a regional plan that will address the challenges faced by the Basque Country in this area.
Representatives of the seven municipalities and 15 Basque bodies that work with citizens or have an impact on them have participated in different workshops with the aim of, on the one hand, diagnosing the current situation regarding the empowerment of citizens with respect to climate change, and, on the other hand, co-designing specific actions that respond to the needs identified during such diagnosis. The aim of all this is foster citizen co-responsibility and educate citizens about climate change; to make each person feel part of the problem and part of the solution; and to facilitate the change of habits and behaviours towards more pro-environmental, and the step to action.
In 2023, the year in which the project will be developed, further sessions are foreseen to deepen the co-creation with the above-mentioned actors and the prioritisation of initiatives that will integrate the action plans. Finally, an evaluation and monitoring phase will be carried out where the proposed actions will be tested. Such evaluation shall enable learning and improving for future implementation plans.
